眾流素食坊

眾流素食坊的素菜,種類繁多,初次點菜,頗要花點時間研究,我們四個人,點了三個菜 - 酸甜肉, 砂鍋冬粉, 酸菜筍片湯,砂鍋獅子頭, 一份蝦捲,一籠絲瓜包子,味道都很不錯.我相信其他的菜式一定也不錯, 下次我想試吃聽起來頗有趣的"金桔蔬菜湯", 還有服務員推薦的"豬排"和 "有機臭豆腐".雖然很多的菜都有葷菜的名字,忌諱吃仿葷素菜的人還是有很多選擇的.

Banana walnut bread and carrot walnut bread based on Mark Bittman's vegetable-and-nut bread recipe.

Recently I made banana walnut breads and carrot walnut breads, both according to Mark Bittman's vegetable-and-nut bread recipe. In the past I had used the same recipe to make a sweet potato nut bread 甜薯核桃蛋糕 and a Taro walnut bread 芋頭核桃蛋糕 . All my breads made with this recipe rose very well and tasted delicious. The one thing bothered me very much was that I think my banana walnut bread tasted just like my carrot walnut bread. Both breads smelled and tasted very well, I guess, from the butter. I could not tell the existence of bananas, even though the sniffing dog at the Tau Yuan International Airport could. In the future, I will double the amount of the banana called for in the recipe. To make the bread healthier, I will also try to replace butter with olive oil.

Papaya smoothie 木瓜冰沙

What a delicious, thick, and satisfying treat! It was made by blending 1/2 cup of frozen papaya and 1 cup of milk in a blender at the highest speed.

Other delicious smoothies that I have tried recently are:
  • Pear kiwi smoothie: Very ripe pear(1), kiwi(1), milk(1 cup)
  • Pear, kiwi and orange are a good combination too.
  • 4- fruit smoothie: Very ripe pear(1/2), apple(1/4), kiwi(1), frozen papaya(1/4 cup), milk(1 cup)
  • Another 4- fruit smoothie (shown below): apple(1/2), kiwi(1), mango(1/3 cup), frozen papaya(1/8 cup), milk(1 cup)

Wendy's Ultimate Chicken Grill sandwich is a healthy choice! Wendy 的烤雞肉三明治好吃又健康

Last Tuesday we had lunch at Wendy’s. I ordered an ultimate grilled chicken sandwich and diet soda. With 50 cents more, I could have gotten a combo meal that included a small fries for myself. Instead I shared a small fries with my husband.

I was very happy with the meal of my choice, which, I thought, was healthy, delicious and satisfying. According to the nutrition fact provided by Wendy's, this sandwich contained 370 calories and half of a small fries contained 160 calories. I could have saved a few calories by asking them to skip the mayonnaise or sauce on my sandwich. However I think the mayonnaise or sauce had made the sandwich a lot more delicious and I felt satisfied with the fries.

The lesson learned: it is still possible to eat a healthy and delicious meal at a fast food restaurant, if you pay attention to what you choose and resist the temptation of getting a bargain combo meal that is more than you need.

Quinoa藜麥

Qinoa
Quinoa is a new, popular organic food. I first heard about it about two years ago. However, this is the first time I cooked quinoa. I cooked it with my vegetable broth. It turned out very delicious.
Nutritional value:
According to an article on quinoa in the Wikipedia, quinoa's protein content is very high (12%–18%). Unlike wheat or rice (which are low in lysine), and like oats, quinoa contains a balanced set of essential amino acids for humans, making it an unusually complete protein source among plant foods.

This dish was inspired by a recipe "Seared Scallops with Fiery Fruit Salsa" in The Culinary Institute of America's "Gourmet Meals in Minutes" P. 214.
I seared the scallops and shrimps exactly as described in the recipe. However, for the salsa, I replaced the fruits with the ones on hand - kiwis, oranges and pomegranate; and skipped the red pepper and the onion. I used the following ingredients for the fruit salsa:
  1. Kiwis, 4
  2. Oranges, 2
  3. Pomegranate, 1
  4. Cilantro, chopped, 1 tablespoon
  5. Lemon juice, 1/2 tablespoon
  6. White wine vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon
  7. Extra virgin oil, 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Salt, 1/8 teaspoon
